money (AIP, PFC and discretionary funding) to
build an infrastructure system (roads, overpasses,
taxiways, etc.) not only to help the new private
company access its new facility but also to
spur new economic development for suppliers,
manufacturers and other aviation-related
companies. This all took a very coordinated
effort between the private entity, the airport
and the federal, state, and local city and county
governments. So does the right bait matter? Of
course it does!
Once you have landed your Blue Marlin, the
next step is to enjoy the boat ride back to shore,
take some pictures and bask in your glory for
the moment before you start planning the next
trip. Just like fishing for Blue Marlin, once
you have landed a large catch, you’re hooked
for life. Much the same is true for economic
development; once you see the job creation and
the impact on the local economy, you’re hooked
for life and can’t wait for the next Blue Marlin.
So good luck, and I hope you land the big one!
