Friends: as I write this column, I do so with great
humility. Words truly can’t begin to express what an
honor and privilege it is for me to serve as your AAAE
Chair for this year.
BY SCOTT A. BROCKMAN, A.A.E., AAAE CHAIR
Over the past three years, I have had the tremendous privilege to serve on the
AAAE Executive Committee with
some fabulous industry leaders
who are, quite frankly, even more
remarkable people. Great leaders
such as Bruce Carter, Mark Brewer,
Randy Berg, Jeff Mulder, Carl
Newman, Jeanne Oliver and Todd
McNamee. I will forever cherish
each of them and the time we have
I have watched and studied each
of the Chairs during my tenure
(Randy, Jeff and Carl) but I have
especially paid particular attention
to Carl Newman. Carl is a unique
and talented individual who leads
in a quiet, calm and peaceful way.
Carl has a great sense of humor and,
beneath that calm exterior, he has
unyielding passion toward AAAE
and our industry. He is a dignified
leader who has elevated important
issues, initiated open and respectful
dialogue, and shined a very bright
light on our path to the future.
I look forward to having Carl’s
calming guidance as I ascend to the
Chair and know I can always call
on him for advice, insight and ideas.
Thank you, Carl!
AAAE President and CEO Todd
Hauptli is now into his fourth
year, and he is doing a tremendous
job as the proud leader of our
organization. He and his leadership
team are charting a bold path to
the future that not only will change
the way the association is run,
but also will create a sustainable,
entrepreneurial business that will
reap huge benefits for its members.
AAAE always has had a great
business model, but Todd and his
team have added steroids and are,
quite frankly, making it better. I
truly look forward to working more
closely with all of them this year.
I also am looking forward to
working for, and with, all of
