The Northeast Chapter-AAAE will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the International Aviation Snow Symposium (IASS) April 23-27, 2016.
The world’s largest event focused exclusively on airfield snow removal
and winter operations, the IASS will be held for the 31st consecutive
year in Buffalo, New York. The event will feature a variety of state-of-the-art snow machines, plus the latest snow removal equipment, services
and solutions. The IASS is recognized for its educational programs,
general sessions, world-class speakers, and impressive mix of exhibitors.
As it has for the last 50 years, the symposium provides a forum for
the exchange of ideas and discussions on equipment, snow removal
techniques, the latest communications, safety, environmental and
personnel trends in the industry, as well as the financial considerations
of winter operations.
The IASS was first held in April 1967 in Allentown, Pennsylvania,
under the general chairmanship of founder and Chairman Col. Bernt
Balchen USAF Ret. and Wilford (Wiley) Post, manager of Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton Airport.
In 2016, the IASS will expand the Snow Academy to include
advanced-level classes, will present its third Operator of the Year
Award, will introduce the Snow Rodeo, and once again will sponsor the
Balchen/Post Awards for excellence in the performance of airport snow
and ice control during the winter of 2015-2016.
“The theme of this exciting event is Innovate. Celebrate. Educate,” said
Nino Sapone, A.A.E., vice president of airfield operations at Pittsburgh
International and incoming president of the chapter in 2016. “Up to
1,000 people are expected to attend. Be a part of history and join us at
the 50th Annual International Snow Symposium.”
